I am delighted to introduce Emirates Wired, the new Emirates Wire podcast.
Every weekday, the newsletter brings you the UAE news that matters to British readers, in the UK and in the Emirates. The podcast gives that newsroom room to breathe, with people who know the country well talking it through at length.
Our first episode asks what the next decade holds for the UAE. For twenty years, the Emirates have built a reputation as the Middle East's safe, open hub, and regional conflict has tested that reputation at sea, in the air, and in the boardroom. Our panel will ask what comes next, and what it means for Britain.
Lukwesa Burak presents. She presents on BBC News and spent a decade anchoring World News on Sky News. She also moderates international gatherings for the United Nations and the World Bank.
Dr Burcu Ozcelik will look at security. She is a Senior Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, the defence and security think tank, where she heads the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey programme.
Pratibha Thaker will look at the economy. She is Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at the Economist Intelligence Unit and has followed the region’s economies there for three decades.
Anita Mendiratta will look at tourism, aviation and how a country guards its reputation. She is Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of UN Tourism and has advised governments in more than 100 countries.
We record on 3 November and release the episode later in November. It is free, and it will arrive in your inbox like the newsletter.
Do you have a question you would like the panel to answer? I will pass the best of them to Lukwesa before we record.
You have been reading the UAE with us every morning. Later next month, you can listen, too.
Steve
